Really Random Numbers provides an alternative to pseudo-random number generators.

Really Random Numbers uses a real-time number generation process based on white noise in energy from the PC's sound card. The result is superior random data that passes virtually all statistical tests of randomness and improves significantly over biased and predictable pseudo-random number generators. Random data is generated either as uniformly distributed binary data, uniformly distributed integers and floating point values, random character strings (for passwords, etc.), or as random permutations and combinations. Really Random Numbers is ideal for use with Monte Carlo simulation, VAR models, audit sampling, lottery selection and other applications where quality random data or sequences are required. Users requiring a cryptographically secure random number generator should read this discussion.

The software operates efficiently in the background with low memory and CPU usage. Random data is buffered for delivery in memory for delivery to other applications via an API and can also be written to file. Using either the data files or its simple programming interace, Really Random Numbers allows you to quickly retrieve high quality random data for use in your own applications. Sample applications and code are included for Visual Basic / VBA / VBScript, Visual C++, and Microsoft Excel. A super-easy point-and-click Excel Spreadsheet is provided to make retrieving random data totally painless.

The software is compatible with all versions of Windows 95 through Windows XP. A sound card and possibly a microphone are required.

The Professional Edition offers all the features of the Standard Edition, PLUS

Saving and loading of data buffers to the hard drive through the COM interface. This makes debugging of complex random models easier by allowing generated random numbers to be saved, used, reloaded, and reused.

Optional use of built-in or external pseudo random number generators. This feature facilitates direct comparison testing of the performance of various generation models and cross-validation as you migrate between random number generators.

Two licenses are included, one for development, one for deployment. Additional user licenses are only $99.

The ability to hide the user interface and tray icon, making usage virtually user-proof.
